Primary Regulations

Environmental Protection Act 1990 This overarching legislation provides the framework for environmental protection in the UK.

Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005 These regulations specifically address the management and disposal of hazardous waste, including duties of care, record-keeping, and transportation requirements.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 These regulations cover the collection, recycling, and recovery of electrical and electronic equipment, which often contains hazardous substances.

The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 UK regulations governing waste management, including duties of care, record-keeping, and transportation requirements for various waste types in England and Wales.

Waste Framework Directive This European Union directive sets out the basic principles for waste management and has been implemented into UK law.

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 While primarily concerned with workplace safety, COSHH also covers the safe handling and storage of hazardous substances, including waste.

Environment Agency (EA) The EA is the primary regulator for environmental matters in England and Wales.
